Ireland Day 77 - Sensory Assault

The biggest one being my walk from the bus to home this evening.

Wandering through the cul de sac with the overgrown street sign, it's a shortcut of sorts, shown to me by Catherine and Maisa. Sometimes the bus drivers don't stop at the park and go to Cotter's. This different way of finding home makes the most sense if that occurs.

Turning down the street, wondering to myself if the dog will show up again, I come across a black cat. "Looks like Loki." I thought idly to myself. And then I stopped. "... Looks a lot like Loki."

My eyes burned a bit at the familiarity of it, rapidly remembering that this time next week I'll be on my way to Washington. I asked myself, am I homesick? I stood surveying the animal, pondering to myself, thinking harder about the cat that it so forcibly resembled.

And I came to the conclusion that it wasn't homesickness. I don't know one word to describe what it was. I said to myself, "I don't want familiarity." I thought briefly about all of the things that will surround me soon and how familiar they're going to be.

It's not that they're bad, that's not the case at all. Never is it that simple! Never.

After recovering from the black cat incident I started to muse over the fact that Halloween is fast approaching. As though the nature surrounding me was eavesdropping on my thoughts, I was suddenly struck still, again, by the overwhelming scent of Autumn: sweet, aromatic dead leaves.

I was still for more moments then, taking in a breath so deep that it almost hurt, willing myself to overfill with it all. And then a fresh wave of how badly I want to be in Ireland for Halloween and Christmas settled itself over me.

I have been informed that Shop Street decorates rather completely during the season. Lights everywhere, I was told. Geraldine said that Brown Thomas fills its shop windows with various Christmas displays that are impressive and fun to look at. She waits until Christmas day to finally view them, opting to cover her face to block the displays up until then. I think that's really awesome. Oh, and she does this with hot chocolate in hand. Even more awesome.

Next year. Next year.

My evening was settled with dinner and then tea. That would be the last sensory assault of the day: I burned my mouth but I found tasty biscuits to go with the tea. I think that evened things out.

I started to read Eat Pray Love today. I can't resist my curiosity anymore! So far I am really enjoying it too.

Does it bother you that this is backwards? I'm feeling so lazy tonight.
Look at how long my fingernails are, it's insane!

Oh, I suppose I did have a fourth strong sensory experience today: the sound of a brief but torrential downpour about half an hour ago. I'm really hoping for good weather tomorrow, and for a few reasons!

One being the Arthur Guinness Day festivities plus concert, as well as wanting some specific photos that require people being outside and enjoying themselves. The weather lately has not been conducive to personal success in that area. Here's hoping!

Ireland Day 46 - I Tried To Sleep In

The bus ride home was very special today. I was nearly knocked down by a group of teenagers while I attempted to get on the bus. Then for the whole ride I had a crazy woman talking to herself to my right, and a woman who knew nothing about personal space on my left. I'm really glad I've started bringing my headphones to work with me! In these situations it's very difficult for me to not start laughing.

I just made some hot chocolate for myself. My cocoa/water/milk ratio is getting a lot better! So tasty. I mean, not as amazing as Butler's but it's certainly passable for an at-home cocoa. I love having access to all of these Aero chocolate products! Mmmmm.

My 365 for today.

Since the studio doesn't open until noon on Sundays, I had a grand plan to sleep in and have a relaxing morning. The relaxing part happened, but the sleeping in did not. I woke up at 7:30 (my plan was 9:30) and was absolutely wide awake. I also went to bed a bit earlier than usual last night, but still! So I loafed. I am ever so good at loafing. I took my clothes out of the washer and hung them, as well as doing my dishes from dinner last night. I sorted out my new music (thanks Andrew!) and put it on my iPod. I even had time to make myself some eggs for breakfast and pack a lunch. Gosh if only I were this productive every morning.

Today I wore one of my new shirts as well. I really like it! It's kind of silly because it's a plaid button up that looks a lot like one I wore all the time in junior high. The one from junior high was flannel though. This is just.. I dunno, cotton? Anyway, it's a good shirt.

Tomorrow I should be going to immigration with Miriam to get my passport re-stamped. I haven't heard back from her today so there's a chance it won't happen. I hope it will though, I just need to get it taken care of! The rest of the day is wide open, as is Tuesday. Fingers crossed that the weather does something at least moderately nice so I get out of the house. I have two new shirts to wear for my days off too =3 I JUST DRIBBLED HOT CHOCOLATE ON MY NEW SHIRT. Good thing it's dark colors :\

I'm not sure what I'll be doing for my photo this evening. Perhaps something with my headphones again? I wish I had a stereo too.. that would make it more interesting. I'll see what I can do. I spent some time today looking at photography forums and I saw some really great "at home" lighting setups. I'm feeling mildly inspired.

Here are "out takes" from my headphone shoot:

-------------------

10:56 am: home: I am in high spirits today!

4:53 pm: photo one: pinched the hell out of my finger on the handle of the broom!!

5:12 pm: bus stop: I am appreciative of the nice weather.

6:05 pm: outside Cotter's: There's a Lost Cat poster, a white one named Albus. He's deaf and his owners miss him very much.

Ireland Day 32 - Sandwich

I'm naming this blog after my mediocre dinner tonight. It was a sandwich, in case you weren't sure. I really don't like nuts/oats/grains clogging up my bread. I tried, I really did. I can do wheat, but not all the other stuff.

Moving on though! I actually took a real picture today. It was of the bad sandwich.

I think it looked fairly promising too. Oh well! Now I know.

When I woke up this morning I was actually feeling better. My head is still feeling a bit like it is stuffed with cotton, I have a bit of the sniffles and the worst cough, but I am on the upswing I think! There was a tiny bit of a setback this morning when I coughed so hard that I threw up, but that passed thankfully! I've been wracked with coughing fits through the whole day, terrifying and disturbing customers I'm sure. I can only hope that I'll sleep soundly tonight (although I don't know how that'll work).

This morning there was a very large shoot to be done - 9 adults and 6 kids. WOW. Brad trained Catharine and I for it earlier in the week and she and I attended it together. My voice is still very weak as well, so I am hopeless at rounding people up. Catharine is awesome! The shoot went really well I think. Got some great shots of the huge family. The rest of the day was pretty low key. Good for my voice.

At lunch I decided I wanted mashed potatoes again, so I went to Riordan's and had bangers and mash. Mmmmmm. It was so so so good. I had a hot chocolate directly after that. I treated myself, some might say xD My throat definitely appreciated all the warm nourishment.

My evening transitioned nicely to an enjoyable sit-down with Steve at the kitchen table. He made me some tea and gave me biscuits and we were chatting about Ireland and how nice it is here. So pleasant!

For the most part I haven't done much today, just edited through photos from the day trip to the Cliffs of Moher. I did probably 70 or so? Exhausting. Worth it though! I love the pictures, they make me happy to look at.

The days are creeping ever close to Wednesday, when I will be getting my third secret tattoo :O Excitement!

Time to sleep!
